設備の使い方

Japanese appliances can be baffling if you have not met one before. Here is what you need.

設備の操作方法をまとめています。

Air conditioning

エアコン

The same unit both heats and cools. The mode matters more than the temperature — if it is set to cooling in December, it will blow cold air no matter how high you set the number.

1台で冷房と暖房の両方を行います。温度よりもモードの設定が重要です。

A comfortable setting is about 26–28 °C in summer and 20–22 °C in winter.

目安は夏26〜28℃、冬20〜22℃です。

Bathroom and hot water

The bath

In a Japanese bathroom you wash and rinse outside the tub, using the shower and the stool, and then get into the tub to soak in clean water. The whole room is waterproof, so splashing is fine.

洗い場で体を洗ってから湯船に浸かる、日本式の浴室です。

The bathroom, with a tub and a shower area — Wash at the shower first, then soak. Do not drain the tub if others are still to bathe. シャワーで体を洗ってから湯船へ。後の方が入る場合はお湯を抜かないでください。

The toilet — Toilet paper only. Everything else goes in the bin. トイレットペーパー以外は流さないでください。

If no hot water comes out, check that 運転 is lit. If the panel is dark, the heater is off.

お湯が出ない場合は「運転」が点灯しているかご確認ください。

The toilet

Only toilet paper goes in the toilet. Wet wipes, sanitary products and anything else belong in the bin — Japanese drains block easily.

トイレットペーパー以外は流さないでください。ウェットティッシュ等はゴミ箱へお願いします。

Kitchen

キッチン

The gas hob — **Gas hob.** Push the dial in and turn to light it. It will not stay lit unless you hold it a moment. There is an automatic safety cut-off. **ガスコンロ。**つまみを押しながら回して点火します。安全装置により自動消火する場合があります。

The microwave and fridge — **Microwave.** 「あたため」 is the reheat button — press it and then start. **電子レンジ。**「あたため」でスタートします。

Plates and cups — Tableware, cutlery, pans and a chopping board are provided.食器・カトラリー・鍋・まな板をご用意しています。

Washing machine

Press 電源, then スタート. The standard cycle runs by default. Detergent is provided.

The wardrobe with hangers — Hangers are in the wardrobe. There is no tumble dryer in most Japanese homes — hang washing indoors, and it will be dry by morning in winter, though rather less quickly in the June rains. ハンガーはクローゼットにあります。乾燥機がない場合は室内干しをご利用ください。

No electricity in part of the house

一部の電気がつかない

A breaker has probably tripped — usually from running the air conditioner, kettle and microwave at once. Find the breaker panel — it is a small white box on the wall — and push the switch that is out of line back up. If you cannot find it, message us.

ブレーカーが落ちている可能性があります。壁の白い分電盤で、下がっているスイッチを上げてください。見当たらない場合はメッセージでお問い合わせください。

No hot water

お湯が出ない

Check the 運転 light on the water heater panel. If it is off, press it once.

給湯器パネルの「運転」ランプをご確認ください。消えていれば一度押してください。
